Amtrak Knitting

It was a sunny morning when my knitting and I boarded the train at South Station:

KIPing doesn't get much better than this. Especially when I see this sign:

Ah, Acela Quiet Car, how I love thee. Just me, my yarn, and five hours of peace and quiet to work on my sock:

And, look out the window. Marinas in Rhode Island:

Coastline in Connecticut:

Ahh, knitting bliss.

It was about then that I realized that the constant buzz, click, whirr, BEEP of my digital camera was probably annoying the bejeezus out of the people sitting around me (because I know that my own bejeezus would have been long gone if the tables had been turned). So, I returned (silently) to my knitting.

NEXT: Heel update.

I love trains! Happy train knitting to you!
- Carla

Hope you had a great trip!

Ahhh, one of my favorite trips. I'll be going that same route soon. LOVE the quiet car. Bejeezus bedamned! More photos! Looking forward to hearing about your adventures ahead.

Is the quiet car truly quiet? Oh, I dream of the past when cell phones weren't the standard travelling companion.

I travel across country 2 times a year on Greyhound. There is no quiet car. There is, however the seat right behind the driver that they try not to give out. Here's a trick tell them your prone to car sickness and clausterphobia, they give up that seat right quick. Enjoy the scenery, the movement, the adventure.

I love train travel too. We only get to travel by rail every few years though. Last year we Amtrak'd from WA state to WI knitting all the way. Is your current sock Thuja?

Ooh, a weekend trip! The travelling looks lovely.

Travel knitting time is just the best! Can't wait to see the rest of that sock? Where did you go?

Ah, that quiet train knitting sounds so blissful now! I could really use that. Your story reminds me of when I was shushed last year on a big ferry boat from Croatia to Italy... I was just clicking through the pics on my digital camera... didn't realize how beepy it really is! D'Oh! :)

Thank you so much for posting this. I haven't been on an acela train for a while and who knows when I'll be on it again. But I used to take it btw BOS and NYP and loved it. Especially the quiet car! I look forward to the next time I get to make the trip, and I'll bring my sock knitting as well!
